Oleksii Lohinov

He was in a hurry to help his wounded comrade, but he was killed. Ukraine bid farewell to another Hero, hockey player Oleksii Lohinov.

He was born on November 25, 1999, in Kyiv. He became interested in sports from an early age and started playing hockey at the school of the Kyiv «Sokil» club, with which he won the bronze medal at the U17 Ukrainian Championship in 2015. Then he joined «Kryzhynka» school in Kyiv and made his adult debut for «Bilyi Bars», which he helped to win gold in the national youth championship and bronze in the adult championship.

Oleksii graduated from the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Faculty of Geography. In 2022, he completed his master’s degree at the Institute of International Relations. In the same year, he started working as a geography teacher at his native school № 317 in Kyiv, from which he graduated.

After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, he voluntarily went to defend Ukraine. From August 10, 2023, he served in one of the military units of the National Guard of Ukraine. But in less than 3 months of service, his family received tragic news. On November 8, 2023, while performing a combat operation in Luhansk region, Oleksii was running to help his wounded comrade when an artillery shell exploded near him…
