Defending Ukraine from Russian invaders, Ukrainian soldier from Lviv region Mykhailo Sharavara sustained life-threatening injuries.
He was born in the village of Semenivka. He studied at Shchyrets secondary school and loved playing chess. He never forgot about it even in his adult life. Mykhailo repeatedly represented his community at sports competitions at the district and regional levels. His friends say he was one of the strongest chess players in the region.
In February 2022, when the full-scale Russian invasion began, he was mobilized. But the same year, on December 29, 49-year-old Mykhailo Sharavara came under enemy artillery shelling in Bakhmut, Donetsk region and sustained life-threatening injuries… On December 17, 2023, a chess tournament in memory of Hero Mykhailo Sharavara was held in the village of Shchyrets.
