Roman Skulchuk was from the Chernivtsi region. He graduated from the College of Arts and Design and had a passion for chess.
After the full-scale invasion of Russian occupiers on Ukrainian soil, he did not hesitate to take up arms in defense of his homeland. He served in military unit A2582. He was killed near the settlement of Verkhnokamianske, in the Bakhmut district of Donetsk region, during a shelling attack. Roman Skulchuk was bid farewell on July 24 in Vyzhnytsia.
He held a first-degree chess ranking and participated in competitions. In his memory, the Vyzhnytsia City Council and the Vyzhnytsia College of Arts and Design, named after Vasyl Shkriblyak, have established a chess tournament in honor of Roman Skulchuk.
