On April 25, 2022, during a Russian shelling of the town of Derhachi (north of Kharkiv), Leonid Gambaro, a Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor at the Institute of Informatics and Management of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, was killed.
He was a Master of Sports in mountaineering and a Category 2 Methodologist.
He completed over a hundred ascents, 20 of which were of the highest difficulty level:

(1969) Mount Shchurovskogo, 5B;
(1970) Dzhailik via North Face, p/p, 5B;
(1972) Ullutau via the “Rhombus,” 5B;
(1974) Dzhailik, via South Face, 5B, led;
(1976) Mount Dombei-Ulgen, 5B;
(1977) Mount Passionary, 5B;
(1978) Vilpata, 5B; Double Peak, 5A;
(1981) Ullukara, 6A;
(1982) Mount Free Spain, 5B.
He participated repeatedly in rescue operations, including the most challenging ones:
(1972) “Cross” of Ushba (Main Group);
(1980) Mount Caucasus (Head of Operations).
