Oleksandr Kladiienko

On April 14, 2025, Oleksandr Kladiienko was killed in combat with a Russian assault unit in eastern Ukraine. A master of martial arts, a member of the Vyshhorod City Council, a volunteer, and a soldier of the 3rd “Svoboda” Battalion of the 4th Operational Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine “Rubizh,” he was 57 years old.

His call sign was “Uncle Sasha”—a man respected by all who had the honor of knowing him. He was the kind who never hid behind others or shirked responsibility. Oleksandr Kladiienko’s heart beat to the rhythm of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. It was more than a sport to him—it was his path, his philosophy. In December 2024, he earned his black belt—not merely a symbol of mastery, but a mark of endurance, daily discipline, and moral strength.

Since 2014, this Hero supported the front as a volunteer. When Russia launched its full-scale invasion, he left his council seat and went to war. Oleksandr entered his final battle in eastern Ukraine on April 14, 2025. Severely wounded during the clash with the enemy assault group, he never let go of his weapon and fought to the very end.

Kind-hearted, honest, and composed—he was respected in his community, cherished by his family, and admired by fellow athletes. His coach, Serhii Lyskov, recalls:
“He was a model of inner strength and unwavering belief in victory. On the tatami, he charged everyone around him with energy and confidence; on the front lines, he gave his life for a free Ukraine. Words fail to express the depth of this loss.”

A farewell ceremony for Oleksandr Kladiienko was hold on May 16 in his hometown of Vyshhorod—the city he loved and which will forever remember him.

Rest in peace, warrior. Your struggle lives on in the hearts of those who live because of you.
