On the front lines, defending his homeland from Russian invaders, a devoted son of Ukraine, a courageous warrior, and an inspiring leader — Yevhen Vashchenko — made the ultimate sacrifice.
Yevhen was born in the village of Shevchenkove, Mykolaiv region. His mother passed away early, and his upbringing fell to his grandmother, who instilled in him the most vital values — honesty, integrity, love for people, and devotion to his country. These lessons became the foundation of his life, guiding him to remain steadfast in his principles throughout his journey.
After finishing school, Yevhen earned two higher education degrees, equipping him to build a successful career. Yet, even amid a busy life, he never turned away from sport. Yevhen was the heart and soul of his village’s sporting life: he gathered a team of young men who dreamed of victory and personally funded their trips to competitions. This dedication gave birth to the football club “Shevchenkove”, of which Yevhen was the founder and president. Under his leadership, the village team achieved victories in numerous tournaments, and to the players, he was a mentor who believed in each one and inspired them to move forward. Colleagues admired his boundless optimism and his conviction that sport could change the world for the better.
When the Russian invasion began, Yevhen took up the defense of his homeland as the commander of a mechanized platoon in military unit A4689. On the battlefield, his courage and strategic thinking shone in full measure. Yevhen fell while fulfilling his duty, protecting his country, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering dedication and bravery.
To his family, he was a devoted husband and the best father; to his friends, a reliable companion; to his team, an inspirer and leader. His death is a profound loss to all who knew and loved him. Yet the memory of Yevhen will live on in the hearts of his children, his wife, his relatives, within the walls of the football club “Shevchenkove”, in the victories he helped achieve, and in the life lessons he generously shared.
Eternal memory to a hero, a true patriot of Ukraine, and an athlete who knew how to unite people and lead them to triumph.
