Andriy Kutsenko

He returned from abroad to defend Ukraine. Russian occupants killed Ukrainian cyclist Andrii Kutsenko.

He was born on December 28, 1989, in Zhovkva, Lviv region. While studying at school, he took up cycling, to which he devoted a significant part of his life. Later, his sporting success helped him choose the institution of higher education. In 2007, he entered the Faculty of Physical Education at the Ivan Bobersky Lviv State University of Physical Culture, from which he graduated in 2012.

Throughout his sports career, Andrii has repeatedly become a champion of Ukraine, medalist of international tournaments as a member of the national team, for which he had been competing for 10 years (2006-2016). He participated in European and World championships and held the title of international master of sports of Ukraine. After graduating, Andrii served under contract at the summer sports training base of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. He got to know about the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion while being in Italy, where he lived at that time. When he heard about the attack, he returned home from abroad and voluntarily joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. For more than 2 years, he fought in the hottest spots of the front, serving in the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade “Magura”. But, unfortunately, on July 3, 2024, 34-year-old Andrii Kutsenko took his last battle…
