On March 14, 2025, Ukraine lost another of its Defenders. Denys Denysiuk—a warrior, athlete, and patriot—gave his life for the freedom of his homeland.
Denys was born in Zhytomyr, studied at Lyceum No. 3, and later pursued higher education at Zhytomyr National Agroecological University, specializing in Economics and Management. Even during his studies, he was conscripted for military service, after which he decided to dedicate his life to defending his country. He signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, becoming a soldier of the National Guard and a participant in the Anti-Terrorist Operation. His courage and dedication were recognized with the “War Veteran – Combatant” medal.
Yet the military was only one facet of his life. Denys was a talented athlete with a passion for football and karate. At the age of six, he joined the “Dojo” club, training under the guidance of Anna Yatskova, who remembers him as a gifted, determined, and diligent sportsman. Over the years, he earned a brown belt, competed in national and international tournaments, won numerous prizes, and achieved the rank of Candidate for Master of Sports. His athletic accomplishments and many awards became symbols of his perseverance and strength of spirit.
With the onset of the full-scale invasion, Denys returned from abroad to stand once again in defense of his country. Alongside his father and comrades, he fought for Ukraine, underwent training in the United Kingdom, and took part in battles in the Chernihiv region.
On March 14, 2025, the relentless war claimed his life…
He leaves behind grieving loved ones—his fiancée, family, friends, and fellow soldiers. His name will forever be etched into the history of our nation, and his memory will live on in the hearts of Ukrainians.
Eternal glory and honor to the Hero! Bright memory…
