A Russian shell ended the life of former football player Hryhoriy Barchyshyn.
He was born on April 3, 1986 in Lviv. He studied at a local school and graduated from the Lviv State University of Physical Culture. However, he did not stop there and received a second degree at the Lviv University of Trade and Economics. But his true passion since childhood has always been football. Hryhorii was a pupil of the Lviv «Karpaty» school and played for the club’s second team. He also managed to play in other clubs.
From the first days of the full-scale Russian invasion, Hryhoriy joined the Kyiv Territorial Defense and later signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He evacuated wounded comrades and performed combat operations in eastern Ukraine. During one of them, on May 21, 2023, near the village of Popasna in Luhansk region, Hryhorii Barchyshyn’s car was hit by an enemy artillery shell, which ended his life at the age of 38.
