Another great loss for Ukraine’s sports community. Defending his homeland from Russian invaders, Ivan Khomiv, an international master of sports in cycling, was killed in action in the Kharkiv region. This hero gave his life for Ukraine on November 17, 2024, while carrying out a combat mission.
Ivan Khomiv began his journey in cycling at the Ternopil-based cycling club “Golden Wheels,” participating in numerous national and international competitions, where he consistently achieved impressive results. After retiring from his professional career as a cyclist, he dedicated himself to coaching.
Ivan took up arms to defend Ukraine during the first year of Russia’s full-scale invasion following his mobilization. From the frontlines, he kept in touch with his family and community, sending them mementos from the battlefield and recording motivational videos for social media, offering inspiration and support to others.
His friends and colleagues remember Ivan as a sincere and candid person with a strong sense of justice.
