Maxym Moroz

Aged 25, Junior Lieutenant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, athlete and track and field champion Maxym Moroz lost his life in the war. His courageous life was tragically cut short on December 15, 2024, on the Donetsk front, near the village of Shevchenko in the Volnovakha district.

Maxym was born on January 7, 1999, in Zhovti Vody, Dnipropetrovsk region. He attended the Independence of Ukraine Lyceum, followed by Zhovtovodsk Industrial College. He was an athlete specializing in track and field and was the champion of Dnipropetrovsk region. He also had a passion for automotive and motorcycle mechanics. A natural leader since his school days, Maxym always passionately defended his point of view.

In 2021, he graduated from the Dnipro State Technical University. He worked as an engineer-energy specialist at the Central Energy Company and at the Eastern Mining and Processing Plant. His colleagues remember him: “Maxym was responsible and diligent in his studies. He eagerly delved into problems when repairing equipment, offering solutions with modern approaches and advice. He was calm, balanced, pleasant to communicate with, kind-hearted, and sociable. He loved repairing automotive technology. A true patriot of Ukraine, he made a conscious decision to defend his homeland and enlisted as a volunteer.”

Maxym joined the defense of Ukraine in July 2024. He completed officer training at the Hetman P. Sahaydachny National Academy of Ground Forces, earning the rank of junior lieutenant. He served as the commander of a mechanized platoon. During his service, he proved himself to be a responsible, principled, and just commander, always leading his men into battle. For this, he was respected by both his subordinates and senior leadership.

The farewell to Maxym Moroz took place on December 20, 2024, in Zhovti Vody, near the monument to the Heroes of the Ukrainian War of Liberation of 1648-1654. Maxym is survived by his mother, Tetiana, and his grandmother, Valentyna.
