Mykhailo Koval, president of the Podillia Football Club (Vasylkivtsi) and a devoted patriot, has given his life for Ukraine. He was 34 years old.
On January 12, 2025, during a combat mission near the village of Yampil in the Kramatorsk district of Donetsk region, Mykhailo was in a vehicle struck by an enemy drone. Tragically, he did not survive the attack and returned to his native Ternopil region “on his shield.”
Born on November 18, 1990, Mykhailo Koval was one of the most active and respected residents of his hometown of Vasylkivtsi in Chortkiv district, Ternopil region. A skilled agronomist, a local council member, and the head of the football club, Mykhailo was deeply rooted in his community. His leadership and dedication to Ukraine’s defense began well before the full-scale war. Having served during the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO), he once again took up arms in 2022 when Russia launched its full-scale invasion.
Villagers remember Mykhailo as a natural leader and a role model within his community. He loved his homeland deeply and contributed significantly to its development. His loss is a profound tragedy for the Podillia football team, the Vasylkivtsi community, and the entire Ternopil region.
We bow low before this defender of Ukraine. Eternal memory and glory to the warrior who protected his homeland and all of us.
