Danylo Namys

Danylo Namys was killed in the war with the Russian occupiers, and he will always be 19…

He was born on 4 August 2004 in Horodnya, Chernihiv region. He studied at Horodnya Lyceum № 1 and was inextricably connected with sports. He was fond of football and played for the local team “Gorodnya”. Then he entered the Chernihiv Professional Lyceum of Railway Transport.

Before graduating, Danylo decided that he would join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. As soon as he turned 18, he went to the military enlistment office. He wanted to become a border guard, but he was not accepted. He waited until April 2023 and tried again. This time, he was recruited to the 1st Tank Brigade “Siveria”. His girlfriend Viktoriia recalls that she tried to dissuade her beloved, but he did not listen to her. They planned their future together and wanted to become a family, but the war destroyed everything.

For almost six months, Danylo served near Pokrovsk district in Donetsk region. His family saw and felt how hard it was for him on the frontline. His tired eyes during video calls and messages of attempts to storm Ukrainian positions by the invaders worried the family. The only thing that gave them hope and calmed them down at that moment was the thought of Danylo’s upcoming holiday. They planned every day of his holiday: from the first to the last day. But, unfortunately, on 7 September 2023, 19-year-old Danylo Namys  died like a Hero near the village of Keramik, Donetsk region. During a heavy contact battle with the invaders, he shielded about 20 of his comrades-in-arms. At first, he was declared missing. It was a very thin thread of hope for the family that Danylo had survived in that hell. Those days of waiting and uncertainty were the most difficult for the family. Viktoriia says that her beloved kept all his promises, except one – to return home alive…

Following the tragic news, in October 2023, friends and acquaintances in his native village organised a football tournament in memory of Danylo Namys, a Hero of Ukraine who gave his life for the future of his country…
