Sambo wrestler Oleh Sapalenko with nickname “Jeweler” was killed while defending Ukraine from Russian invaders.
He was born on September 23 1993 in Kharkiv. He graduated from a local school and received a higher education at the university. Since childhood, he was fond of sports. He practiced combat sambo and grappling, a martial art. Was a winner and prize winner of local and national competitions. He was an active member of the fan movement of the «Metalist» football club. He had an extraordinary hobby – jewelry. In 2016, he even received a diploma in this field.
In 2014, he participated in the Revolution of Dignity in his native Kharkiv. He met the beginning of the full-scale invasion in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where he served as a reconnaissance sniper. Later, he was transferred to the «KRAKEN» unit, where he defended his hometown. On June 24, 2022, Oleh Sapalenko was killed while performing a combat operation in the Kharkiv region.
