Oleksandr Babenko

Ukrainian representative of jiu-jitsu Oleksandr Babenko, who defended Ukraine as part of the “Azov” Regiment, was cynically murdered by the Russian occupiers.

After the explosion on the night of July 29, 2022, which occurred on the territory of the former penal colony in the village of Olenivka in the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region, a building where Ukrainian prisoners of war were held was destroyed. According to the Russians, more than 50 Ukrainian defenders were killed, and the number of wounded is unknown. According to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, 130 people were injured.

Oleksandr Babenko was among the victims. He was born on June 23, 2001. He was fond of jiu-jitsu. After graduating in 2019, he joined the military in Kyiv. In 2020, he joined the «Azov» Regiment and was transferred to Mariupol. Oleksandr could not stand aside when the Russian occupiers insidiously invaded Ukraine. On July 29, 2022, it became known that Oleksandr Babenko, with the call sign “Creed”, was killed during a targeted terrorist attack by Russians in Olenivka.
