Oleksandr Honchar

Former football player Oleksandr Honchar died in the war with the Russian occupiers.

He was born on February 25, 1980, in the village of Shchaslyve in Boryspil district. He graduated from the local school and entered the Hruhorii Skovoroda State Pedagogical University to become a physical education teacher. Oleksandr chose his future job because he liked football since childhood. In 1997, he made his debut for his first professional club «Borysfen» from Boryspil. Later, he played for other Ukrainian clubs, including «Prykarpattia», «Vorskla», «Metalist», «Zorya» and «Oleksandriya». However, he played the most matches for his first club. And in the elite division of the national championship, he played 67 matches, in which he scored 2 goals.

After finishing his sports career, Oleksandr became an entrepreneur, met his future wife and became a father twice. The couple had a daughter and a son.  Many more years of happy family life awaited Oleksandr, if not for the war… In March 2023, the former footballer joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine, became a soldier of a separate automobile brigade of the Airborne Assault Forces. But after six months of service, we received the sad news. Defending Ukraine from the Russian invaders, on August 16, 2023, in Zaporizhzhia region, 43-year-old Oleksandr Honchar was killed…
