Oleksandr Ivashchyk lived in Irpin. He was 42 years old and devoted his entire life to football.
He earned numerous titles and was repeatedly recognized as the best player in several local teams. In recent years, he played for the Irpin-based BKZ (futsal) and “Olymp” from Dmytrivka. “On the football field, Oleksandr was always an indomitable fighter, a true team player, with an unyielding character. He fearlessly led his teammates and was the same in life,” recalled members of the Kyiv-Sviatoshyn Football Federation.
When the war began, Oleksandr became a volunteer. He delivered food and helped his fellow villagers evacuate from Irpin, risking his own life. He helped hundreds of people evacuate. He was killed on March 13, 2022, in Irpin while carrying out his volunteer work. He was shot in his car by Russian occupiers on a bridge near the village of Romanivka.
He was buried in his hometown, leaving behind a grieving wife and two children.
