He was killed during the occupation at the hands of Russian invaders, abducted from his home in mid-March 2022, and executed along with his parents in a forest near Motyzhyn. The exact date of his death remains unknown.
Oleksandr began playing football in his native village under the guidance of his father, Ihor Sukhenko, and trained at the Youth Sports School “Lider” in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka. He played for several football teams and rose from a village player to a professional.
He became a champion and twice won the Kyiv Oblast Cup, as well as the champion and holder of the Kyiv-Sviatoshyn district cup. A special chapter of Oleksandr’s football career was his time with the professional football club “Chaika” from Petropavlivska Borshchahivka. In the Ukrainian Second League and the Ukrainian Cup, representing Sports Club “Chaika,” Oleksandr Sukhenko played 25 matches and scored 4 goals.
During the Russian occupation, he stayed with his parents, although he could have evacuated. He helped many of his fellow villagers escape from the occupied settlement, risking his own life to bring humanitarian aid to his compatriots.
