In Irpin, Russian invaders shot the famous Ukrainian boxer and children’s trainer Oleksii Dzhunkovskyi.
The athlete died right in the boxing gym where he worked while communicating with the Russian military. The coach was shot on the spot.
Oleksii Dzhunkovskyi won medals of the World Championship among military personnel four times. After the end of his career, he became a children’s coach and trained many famous boxers. Oleh Lahuta, the winner of the 2016 European Championship among schoolchildren, and Vladyslav Marchuk, the silver medalist of the 2015 European Championship among schoolchildren are among Dzhunkovskyi’s pupils. Oleksii not only trained children, but also collaborated with well-known fighters, in particular, with the WBF world champion Vitalii Kopylenko.
The athlete was a great patriot of Ukraine, a member of the « Sportsmen for the Future of Ukraine» movement. And after the start of the war with Russia, the coach helped to deliver food to Ukrainian soldiers.
