Footballer. Warrior. Defender. A man who understood the meaning of team spirit and fought until the very end. Oleksii Shubin was killed on the front lines on November 18, 2024, during a combat mission near the village of Lypsti in Kharkiv Oblast, struck by an FPV drone attack.
A graduate of the Dnipro Sports School, Oleksii dedicated his life to football. He played for Pavlohrad’s Shakhtar, Belarusian Vedrych, Zaporizhzhia’s Torpedo, Cherkasy’s Dnipro, Okhtyrka’s Naftovyk, and many other clubs. With Chernihiv’s Desna, he won silver in Ukraine’s Second League, later concluding his career with amateur teams. Football taught him resilience, perseverance, and the relentless pursuit of victory.
When the full-scale war began, Oleksii did not stand aside. He served as a chief reconnaissance sergeant in the National Guard of Ukraine, taking part in frontline combat operations. For his service, he was awarded the Commander-in-Chief’s distinction and a medal for the defense of Kharkiv.
For a long time, Oleksii was listed as missing in action. Tragically, the worst news was confirmed. Ukraine lost not only a remarkable athlete but also a man of honor who remained true to his principles—struggle, teamwork, and unwavering resilience—until the very end.
Eternal glory to the hero. Rest in peace, warrior.
