He could have trained future champions, but instead, he gave his life defending his homeland. On January 10, 2023, while carrying out a combat mission near the village of Bilohirya in the Polohy district of Zaporizhzhia region, archery coach and sergeant Ruslan Zavhorodnii was killed. He laid down his life protecting Ukraine from Russian occupiers.
Ruslan Zavhorodnii was born on February 28, 1974, in the city of Dniprodzerzhynsk (now Kamianske). In 1992, he graduated from Vocational School No. 4 and subsequently served in the military from 1992 to 1994. For many years, he worked for the DTEK company and was a devoted coach at the Kamianske Archery Club “SKIF.” In 2022, he completed his studies at the Kamianske College of Physical Education.
He perished in battle on January 10, 2023, sustaining fatal injuries. On January 14, he was laid to rest in his hometown. A memorial service was held at the Cossack Church of the Holy, and the Hero was buried in the Alley of Glory at the city cemetery.
He is survived by his daughter.
