He was on the brink of becoming a father of many. Karate champion Serhiy Berezniak lost his life in the war with Russia.
Born in the town of Valky in the Kharkiv region, Serhiy’s childhood passion for sports evolved into a lifelong commitment. He was a multiple prizewinner in the Ukrainian Championships, the Ukrainian Premier League tournaments, and the A Series tournaments. In 2015, Serhiy won the Ukrainian Cup. Despite his active sports career, he found time to train others. In the mid-2010s, he opened a karate sports club in his hometown, where his trainees frequently became winners in national championships across various age categories.
He could have raised many more champions, but the war abruptly ended everything… On August 21, 2023, the sad news arrived of Serhiy Berezniak’s death while performing a combat mission. The Hero left behind two young children and a beloved wife who was expecting another child, who will sadly never have the chance to meet their father…
