Serhiy Shvydkyi was killed near Vuhledar on January 26, 2023. A hostile shell struck him while he and his comrades were holding back the enemy’s advance. At the age of 26, he held the rank of sergeant and served as the chief sergeant of his company. He had been wounded twice but returned to the battlefield each time.
He was a passionate supporter of sports and an active lifestyle. He had been involved in sports since childhood, studying at the Chernihiv sports school where his father, Shvydkyi Eduard Anatoliyovych, worked as a basketball coach.
He held an adult and sports rank in basketball and participated in the championships of Chernihiv Oblast and Ukraine.
Serhiy studied at the Chernihiv Industrial and Economic College of the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design from 2011 to 2015.
In 2015, Serhiy was drafted into the Ukrainian Armed Forces for compulsory service. In 2016, he signed a contract and began serving in the ATO and later the JFO.
