Vasyl Drohorymetsky

Vasyl Drohorymetsky, 28 years old, died fighting against Russian invaders.

He was born on May 8, 1994, in the village of Bodnariv, Kalush district, Ivano-Frankivsk region, and was the only son in his family.

From a young age, he was interested in sports. At that time, there were few opportunities in the village for sports activities, and there were no sports sections. At 14, Vasyl made arrangements with older boys and began training in a “gym” (an old house that they had turned into a training space). This makeshift “gym” in the village laid the foundation for his love of sports and his future life path.

After graduating from Bodnariv Secondary School in 2011, Vasyl entered the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, Faculty of Physical Education and Sports, where he studied until 2016. During his studies, he earned the title of Candidate Master of Sports in powerlifting and participated in various competitions in weightlifting and arm wrestling.

Almost from the first days of the full-scale invasion, Vasyl Drohorymetsky, with the call sign “Eyonot,” without hesitation or fear, joined the defense of Ukraine as part of the combined unit of the National Police of Ukraine “SAFARI.” Together with his comrades, he bravely defended Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions.

He died in battle for the freedom of his people on May 22, 2022, in the town of Vilnoandriyivka, Zaporizhzhia region, as a result of a powerful rocket strike by Russian occupiers. For his personal bravery and selflessness in defending Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as his unwavering and flawless service to the Ukrainian people, the President of Ukraine awarded him, posthumously, the “For Courage” Order of the 3rd degree.

Vasyl will remain forever 28 years old. He left behind a wife and a son.
