Vasyl Dzhus

On 13 February 2025, the residents of his home village bid farewell to 26-year-old serviceman Vasyl Dzhus. He was killed on 29 January 2025 while resisting the occupiers in the Pokrovsk sector.

Vasyl was born on 7 January 1999 in Krykhivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk region. He studied at the local school. From an early age, he showed a deep love for sport, pursuing a wide range of interests. He played football in a youth team and trained in sambo and judo. He took part in nationwide and regional competitions, and in judo earned the title of Candidate for Master of Sport. He graduated from the Ivano-Frankivsk College of Physical Education.

On the first day of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Vasyl Dzhus voluntarily went to the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center, determined to defend his country. However, due to his age, he was not accepted at that time. He was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine on 24 May 2024.

Vasyl served in the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Anna of Kyiv. He underwent training in Poland, Germany, and France, and served as a military signalman.

Since autumn 2024, he had been fighting in the Pokrovsk sector. On 29 January 2025, Vasyl Dzhus fell in battle near the village of Kotlyne in Donetsk region.

Farewell to the Defender was held in the Church of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Krykhivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk region.
