He loved football and dreamed of becoming a sports commentator, but the war destroyed everything. Viktor Yarmola died defending Ukraine from Russian invaders.
He was born on April 9, 1998, and lived in the village of Vyshenky, Kyiv region. Since childhood, he was fond of football, played and was a fan of “Dynamo” Kyiv. He was mad about the game that millions of people around the world play and love, and he dreamed of becoming a football commentator, working at the matches of his favorite teams and making others fall in love with the sport. Unfortunately, this never happened.
He had got to know what war was before the full-scale invasion began. He fought in the ATO, and in 2021 he signed a contract to become a soldier of the legendary 95th Air Assault Brigade. From the first day of the offensive in February 2022, Viktor defended Ukraine. And on May 21, he fought his last battle. Not far from Sloviansk, Donetsk region, during an artillery shelling, he received a serious injury incompatible with life…
For his personal courage and selfless actions in defending the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, loyalty to the military oath, he was awarded the Order “For Courage” of the III class (posthumously), as well as the medal “For the Defense of the Motherland”.
In memory of the Hero, a street in his native village was named after him. On September 24, 2023, a football tournament in his memory was held in Vyshenky on a newly built sports field. The symbolic ribbon was cut by Viktor’s grandmother, who instilled in her grandson a love of sports. The construction of the playground began in 2021, but the work stopped due to the war. In the fall of 2022, Oksana, the mother of the fallen Hero, offered to complete it with her own funds, which covered a significant portion of the costs.
