The tragic news of yet another irreplaceable loss has shaken all of Dnipropetrovsk region. On February 17, 2024, in fierce battles for Avdiivka, Vladyslav Kuptsov, a warrior of the 425th Separate Assault Battalion “Skala,” heroically fell. He was only 28 years old.
From childhood, he dreamed of a great football career, aspiring to bring glory to Ukraine on the international stage. As a player, he competed in national championships. Yet fate led him not to the football field, but to the battlefield. After completing his mandatory military service and gaining combat experience, he did not hesitate when, on February 24, 2022, Russia launched its full-scale invasion—he stood up to defend his homeland.
Vladyslav fought in the fiercest battles, striking down the enemy and bringing victory closer. In his final battle, retreating from Avdiivka under relentless enemy fire, he saved his comrades at the cost of his own life. He was laid to rest on February 23, 2024, at the Krasnopil Cemetery in Dnipro, in the Alley of Heroes. Hundreds gathered to bid farewell—family, friends, fellow soldiers, and caring Ukrainians.
To honor Vladyslav Kuptsov, the first memorial tournament in his name took place in Dnipro on May 25, 2024. Eight teams gathered at the “Olympic Reserves” stadium not only to compete but also to pay tribute to his sacrifice. During the opening ceremony, his friends remembered Vladyslav—his courage, kindness, and deep love for football.
Ukrainians have launched a petition to award him the title of “Hero of Ukraine.” He was an example to all who are ready to fight for their country, even at the cost of their own lives.
Eternal memory and glory to the Hero!
