Yaroslav Strylets

On September 11, 2024, the tragic news came that two-time world champion and multiple-time Ukrainian champion in pankration, Yaroslav Strylets from Cherkasy, had been killed. He was only 21 years old, and had just turned 21 in the spring. Yaroslav volunteered to defend his country at the tender age of 19.

Born on May 23, 2003, in the village of Verguny, Cherkasy region, Yaroslav grew up surrounded by nature, which deepened his love for his homeland. As a child, he spent countless hours exploring the vast meadows and forests, never wanting to leave the banks of the beautiful river flowing through his village.

Yaroslav began his sports journey at the local kickboxing section, training for four years before finding his true passion in pankration, an ancient martial art, and starting his path to the highest sporting achievements in Cherkasy.

In both his training and on the battlefield, Yaroslav always approached his work with utmost responsibility, striving to be the best and first in everything. He set a high goal for himself: to become the absolute world champion. But when Russian forces invaded his homeland, this dream had to be postponed—permanently, as it turned out.

In one interview, Yaroslav said, “All my fights have been tough, but the toughest one is yet to come.” Sadly, that final battle was his last.

Eternal memory and glory to the hero who gave his life for Ukraine’s future!
