The war with Russian occupiers claimed the life of another representative of Ukrainian sports. Figure skater Dmytro Sharpar died near Bakhmut, Donetsk region.
Dmytro passed away at the age of 25. Before he joined the military to defend Ukraine, he was a member of the Ukrainian national figure skating team. He competed in pairs with Anastasia Pobizhenko, and in 2016 they finished in 10th place in the pairs competition at the Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway. They were also silver medalists at the Ukrainian Championship.
After retiring from competitive sports, Dmytro worked as a performer in the ice circus show “Grand.”
