Defending Ukraine from the Russian invaders, racing driver Oleksandr Yeremiahin was killed.
He was born on 16 September 1970 in Ivano-Frankivsk. He attended school № 1 and graduated from Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas. Since 2000, he has been actively involved in motorsports. He competed in the Ukrainian rally championships and slalom championships.
The war with Russia for Oleksandr had started long before the full-scale invasion. In 2014 he voluntarily served in the ATO. Fought for 2 years in Luhansk region, as a member of the 80th Air Assault Brigade. He was in the hottest spots in the east of the country, including Luhansk airport. Then he returned home, where his favourite occupation helped him to adapt to civilian life – he repaired cars in his own workshop. But, unfortunately, he could not leave military service forever.
Already an hour after the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022, he took up arms again. As a member of the 80th Air Assault Brigade, he liberated Kharkiv region, defended Ukraine in Donetsk, Kherson and Mykolaiv regions. On December 14, 2022, while performing a combat operation near Toretsk, Donetsk region, 52 years old Oleksandr Yeremiahin was killed…
For his selflessness in the fight against the invaders, the Hero received many awards, but, unfortunately, some of them posthumously: the Presidential Award ‘For Participation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation’, the award ‘For Participation in Combat Operations in the ATO Zone’, the award of the Mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk ‘For honour and victory’ (posthumously), the Order ‘For Courage’ ІІІ class (posthumously), and became an honorary citizen of Ivano-Frankivsk (posthumously).
In December 2023, a commemorative tablet was unveiled in his honour on the facade of Lyceum № 1 in his native Ivano-Frankivsk.
