Oleksii Khanilevych was born on July 31, 1998, in Horishni Plavni. He played for the basketball club “Kremin” in the Higher League. As part of the team from Poltava region, he became the Ukrainian champion in his age group.
On May 31, 2021, Oleksii was conscripted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine for mandatory military service. He was offered the opportunity to continue playing for “Kremin,” but he decided that his place was with the army rather than on the basketball court. He planned to return to sports after his service.
On February 28, 2023, while defending our homeland in battle, Oleksii succumbed to injuries that were incompatible with life near Kreminna (Sievierodonetsk district, Luhansk region).
He left behind a pregnant wife, who is expecting their daughter.
On March 9, the young serviceman was bid farewell in Horishni Plavni. Oleksii Khanilevych was laid to rest with honors at the military memorial “Their names will live forever.”
