Rostyslav Livach

After the start of the full-scale invasion, he had to change his sports saber to a heavy weapon and fight not on fencing sports floors with opponents, but on the front line with enemies. Ukraine bid farewell to another Angel of Sports, Rostyslav Livach.

He was born on January 25, 1987 in Lviv. He studied at school № 59 and took up fencing at the Lokomotiv Sports School. He was a multiple winner and medalist of the Lviv region Championship. He was a member of his region’s team at the national championships and twice competed at the Universiades, representing the Ivan Bobersky Lviv State University of Physical Culture. He entered this university in 2003 to study at the sports faculty and graduated in 2008 with a specialist degree. Throughout his student years, Rostyslav not only did well in his studies, but also took an active part in scientific work: he spoke at conferences and competitions. And he became a candidate for master of sports in fencing.

Another passion in Rostyslav’s life was computer technology. After graduation, he built his career in this field. He became a successful entrepreneur in the field of repair and maintenance of electronic computers. His friends say that he was an inquisitive, sensible, friendly and easy-going guy. He always had time for everyone. He could never refuse to help anyone. If he took a task, he would carry through this work.

After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, he joined the ranks of the 10th separate mountain assault brigade “Edelweiss”. Later, he defended Ukraine as part of the 78th separate airborne assault regiment “Hertz”. He will always be remembered as a fearless and decisive person by his comrades, with whom Rostyslav fought side by side all these years till June 6, 2024, when he was killed…

On June 12, the 37-year-old Hero was laid to rest in his hometown. At home, his parents, grandmother and brother were waiting for him…
