From the first days of the war, Vasyl went to defend his homeland, despite having three sons—16-year-old Danylo, 12-year-old Roman, and 8-year-old Bohdan.
He was literally shot point-blank by a Russian tank, and in an instant, his three sons were left half-orphans.
He was carrying out a combat mission in the Luhansk region: his task was to take down a Russian tank with a Javelin, but the enemy fired first.
Vasyl served in a reconnaissance brigade. In 2022, he fought in the Kharkiv region, and from February 4, 2023, he was transferred to Luhansk. On February 20, the day of his death, he was carrying out a combat mission not at his own position, but as a replacement.
Before the war, Vasyl was involved in martial arts—jiu-jitsu, boxing, and pankration.
Since 2016, he trained under Ivan Filipchuk, holding a third-degree technical level before reaching a black belt. In 2019, he won a silver medal at the regional grappling championship. In 2021, he earned silver at the Khmelnytskyi regional championship and competed in the “Gentlemen in the Ring” boxing tournament, along with other local and national competitions.
He also helped set up sports halls where children in Chernivtsi now practice sports. Vasyl Daskalyuk’s sons are also involved in sports at local sports clubs.
